TEAM DC (Katie and Erin Taylor)

Anne of the Island by L.M. Montgomery

1. Who was the main character?  Was the main character a sympathetic
character or not?

The main character of Anne of the Island is Anne Shirley.  She is a
sympathetic character because readers are drawn to her kindness, sense
of adventure, imagination, and self-discovery.  Her stubbornness also
makes her a sympathetic character because there are times you just
want to shake her and help her along her path to Gilbert.

2. Does the setting of this book play an important role in the story?
Why or why not?

Redmond College is somewhat important because it is part of the
continued growth and evolution of Anne as a character.  And it is
partially because of her romance with Roy Gardner that she realizes
that there is another true love out there for her.  And Avonlea, PEI
is important to the story because it is where Anne finds herself and
meets and falls in love with Gilbert, her true love.

3. What happened in the climax of the book?  What lessons did the main
character learn as a result of the climax?

The climax of the book comes when Anne is proposed to by Roy and must
choose between her ideals and her heart.

4. If you were the main character, how would you have solved the
problem facing the main character at the climax?

If we were Anne, we would have figured out that Gilbert was a catch
much earlier on and married him!  What girl doesn't know that having a
chalk board broken over your head is a sign of affection!?

5. Where will the 2012-2013 Taylor Family Reunion be held?

TEAM GR (Don, Stephanie, Quinn, and Maisie Sanderson)

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by J.K. Rowling

1. Who was the main character?  Was the main character a sympathetic
character or not?

The main character is Harry Potter.  Harry Potter is a very sympathetic character.  Flawed, a normal boy with awesome untapped potential.  The reader immediately sympathizes with his living situation with the Dursleys and sees his potential ahead of him.  You root for him from the beginning!

2. Does the setting of this book play an important role in the story?
Why or why not?

The setting is important as it becomes both the sight of his "growing up" and the sight of his past - where his parents met, lived and grew up as well.

3. What happened in the climax of the book?  What lessons did the main
character learn as a result of the climax?

In the climax Harry defeats "He who shall not be named" for the first time by being willing to secure the stone, but resisting the desire to use it.  The climax teaches Harry that his heart is pure.  It sets the stage of the "hero" being one we all wish we could be.  Strong yet willing to use that strength only to help others vs. for himself.  It is pure acts of selflessness. He also learns that love can out last evil by using the power of touch to defeat his opponent.

4. If you were the main character, how would you have solved the
problem facing the main character at the climax?

Certainly not as well as Harry did.  Seeing a face come out of the back of my professor's head would have made me lose my lunch.

5. Where will the 2012-2013 Taylor Family Reunion be held?

TEAM SC (Granny and Grandpa Taylor)

These Happy Golden Years by Laura Ingalls Wilder

Please accept our required book report and duly note that it is submitted "on time"!

We selected and read "Happy Golden Years" by Laura Wilders because it is at our reading level and the title seemed appropriate for us!

1. Who was the main character?  Was the main character a sympathetic
character or not?

Laura is a very sympathetic character, loved by all just like all of the Taylor Family members. She taught school at the age of 16 which we are sure Charlotte, Quinn, Peter and Maisie will all do. They take after their GG & GG.

2. Does the setting of this book play an important role in the story?
Why or why not?

The setting of the "Prairies" plays a very important role of portraying a very rugged way of life, especially during the winter which the main character, Laura, must endure and over come. It reminds us what we must endure here in Naples. Poor Laura and us.

3. What happened in the climax of the book?  What lessons did the main
character learn as a result of the climax?

Laura did every thing just right to overcome her trails and tribulations.

4. If you were the main character, how would you have solved the
problem facing the main character at the climax?

Her reading material must of included our autobiographies! She was a fast learner! Besides Laura loved to sew-is that a coincidence?

5. Where will the 2012-2013 Taylor Family Reunion be held?

Respectfully submitted, GG&GG

Team TC (Dave, Lisa, and Ellie Taylor)

1. Who was the main character?  Was the main character a sympathetic
character or not?

Our main character was Charlotte, a girl was was transformed back in time and also became Claire. She was sympathetic because she was very concerned about her friend Emily and who was Emily's mother.

2. Does the setting of this book play an important role in the story?
Why or why not?

The setting is important because it allows the use of a boarding school, attended by both Claire and Charlotte, to be the transforming agent that allows Charlotte and Claire to bounce between time periods.

3. What happened in the climax of the book?  What lessons did the main
character learn as a result of the climax?

She learned that Sarah's mother was actually Emily and that it took the experience with Claire to figure this out.

4. If you were the main character, how would you have solved the
problem facing the main character at the climax?

We would have focused more on the bed that was a common denominator between both time periods.

5. Where will the 2012-2013 Taylor Family Reunion be held?
